A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width consisting of a brick red trapezoid wider at the bottom and centered thereon a silver Pegasus with yellow wings flying towards upper left above a blue flash pointing to the left; in the upper right corner is a silver disc and in each of the other three corners a silver star. The insignia is to be worn in pairs.
Brick red is the color associated with the Transportation Corps, ultramarine blue with the Aviation Branch, and yellow is one of the colors used for Ordnance units. Pegasus is the flying horse of Greek mythology used universally to represent flight or aviation. Lightning connotes speed and relates to Aviation Systems Command's air weapons systems. The trapezoid background shape is formed by the configuration of the constellation Pegasus consisting of the three bright stars of Pegasus and the brightest star of Andromeda represented by the silver dot.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 24 June 1985. It was amended to change the color of the lightning flash on 10 January 1986.
